November 14, 2007Who should issue refunds for 7 dollar script purchases?
The 7 dollar script is a popular software that is used by thousands of internet marketers today. However, with the 7 dollar script setup offering 100% affiliate commission, who is the party responsible for issuing the refunds?
While I don’t personally own the 7 dollar script, I promote a couple of different products that use it to sell digital products. It’s not really a focal point of my marketing, but I’ve made a few hundred dollars passively by setting up a review-style page to promote products that are powered by this 7 dollar script.
However, what happens when a purchaser of a product sold using this marketing software decides that they want a refund?
I was actually faced with this very question this morning, and we’ll see how it plays out. I have a review page setup for Willie Crawford’s Really Fast Money Report; basically it shares how even a novice internet marketer can come up with money quickly in a pinch. It was a good read and so I threw together a simple review page, initially to capture leads for a marketing email list, but I’ve ended up making about $15 - $20 month from the review page.
Anyway, this morning, I get an email from somebody who purchased the Really Fast Money Report through my review page asking me for a refund. Initially, I was going to grant it myself & be done with it. However, after thinking about it, I sent the purchaser to Willie Crawford’s help desk.
When you think about it, I am the promoter of a product; I am not the seller or the company backing the product. In my opinion, it’s the companies responsibility to reimburse purchases where the purchaser wasn’t satisfied with the product, and then, depending on the company, setup, etc; the company will get back their money from the promoter.
When I sold cable door to door, I couldn’t do anything for consumers who wanted their money back. I got paid, but the company was ultimately responsible for their product. While depending on the region I was in or the company I was contracted to work for, I was sometimes charged back commission on sales that fell through, it was the company who was initially responsible for the refund.
Now, I don’t know if this ties directly into the 7 dollar script and internet marketing, but I think the same concept should apply to purchases made using the 7 dollar script where affiliate commissions are set to 100%.
I’ll post back here when there is an update on the situation, but I would love to hear how other product owners feel about this as well as the affiliates that market products sold using the 7 dollar script.
